CTEC Aviation Technology Career & Technical Student Organization (CTSO) pose with members of the STX Boogie International Skydiving Team during their first St. Croix event. Students witnessed live skydiving landings as elite professional skydivers—including world record holders, Red Bull athletes, and international champions—touched down at the Leatherback’s landing field.

The Electricity and Welding Technology students demonstrated their skills and professionalism by installing outdoor lighting at the front school entrance and other locations at CTEC, which will provide continuous safety to all adult evening students and other personnel.

TSgt. Shevana Jones of the Virgin Islands Air National Guard (VIANG) shares recruitment information to students from the CTEC Aviation Technology program.  Students had an opportunity to meet with representatives from various branches of the military, businesses, and colleges/universities.

Careers in Aviation Presentation

Mr. George Somerszaul III, flight attendant and aspiring pilot, provided information to the students regarding the various careers in aviation, many of which can be affiliated with their CTEC program.  As a flight attendant, Mr. Somerszaul has flown over 606 flights and visited over 20 countries across three continents and territories.

A library of open education resources and a network of Virgin Islands educators who are dedicated to using high-quality, openly-licensed educational resources.

The worldwide Open Educational Resources (OER) movement is rooted in the human right to access high-quality education. This shift in educational practice is about participation and co-creation, which offers opportunities for systemic change in teaching and learning content through engaging educators in new participatory processes and effective technologies for engaging with learning. By joining this movement, the USVI ushers in a wave of openly-licensed digital resources modified to adjust to the needs of our students.

Legislation by the United States Congress has provided funds to cover not only disaster-related damages due to 2017 Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but also funding to achieve current industry standards for the educational facilities occupied by the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE). This includes nearly all instructional and supporting facilities, totaling prior to the hurricanes, nearly three million square feet on all three islands.

This legislation created unprecedented opportunity to change the footprint of education in the United States Virgin Islands. To guide this process, the VIDE has developed an Educational Facility Master Plan.

The VIDE has developed newschoolsvide.com as a platform by which to engage the US Virgin Islands public school community, and keep you updated on our progress.
